Where Suncoast is and how to get there

Suncoast Casino, Hotels & Entertainment sits on Durban's beachfront. It is part of Tsogo Sun, not Sun International, which is worth knowing when you look for official information or use a loyalty card.

The physical address is Suncoast Boulevard, Marine Parade, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Postal mail goes to PO Box 10132, Marine Parade, 4056.

If you are driving in on the N3, follow the signs to "Beaches". Once you reach the beachfront, follow the signs to North Coast/Battery Beach & Suncoast. For a GPS or map app, use these coordinates: 29°50'4.54" S | 31°1'57.25" E.

The gaming floor and Salon Privé

The casino is open 24 hours a day, Monday to Sunday. You can plan a late arrival or an early start without worrying about closing time.

On the tables, there are 61 games covering Roulette, Poker, Blackjack and Baccarat. Progressive side bets run on Blackjack and Poker, from R25 to R100. On the Main Floor and in the Smoking Casino, the minimum is R10 for Roulette and R50 for Blackjack, as currently set. Minimums can change, so check the sign at the table before you sit down.

Slot numbers vary between official pages, from over 1,370 to over 1,500. Either way, expect a large slot floor with plenty of choice.

Salon Privé is on the upper level of the casino. It is described as the only Privé in South Africa overlooking the ocean, with views over Durban's Golden Mile. It has separate smoking and non-smoking areas. Listed figures are 21 table games and 195 slot machines, but these may be out of date.

Dining, hotels and entertainment

Suncoast lists over 24 eateries, so a meal before or after gaming is easy to arrange. The mix includes:

There are two hotels on site, Suncoast Hotel and Suncoast Towers, both at 20 Battery Beach Road, Durban. Check-in is from 14h00 and check-out is by 11h00.

For entertainment, live shows run at the playTSOGO Globe and The Barnyard Theatre. There is also the Suncoast CineCentre for movies, a spa, and kids' activities at Cool Club and Magic Company.

Parking, age rules and Tsogo Rewards

Parking is linked to the Suncoast Rewards Card. Listed fees are:

• A Tier to J Tier members: free
• 10 Tier members: R5 or 500 points
• Guests without a card: R10 per car
• Taxis: R400

Black Rewards members get VIP parking, though tier names may have changed. Ask at the rewards desk which tier qualifies today.

The Tsogo Rewards programme is open only to people aged 18 or older. You need valid, acceptable identification to register and take part. Members use the Tsogo Sun App, and points earned at one casino can be moved to another.

South African law does not allow anyone under 18 to gamble. Bring a valid ID, even if you only plan to watch a show or eat, so you are ready if asked.

Online play, licences and staying in control

Under the National Gambling Act, 2004, online casino-type games are not legal in South Africa. Online betting through a licensed bookmaker is the exception. Legal gambling includes casinos, bingo, betting and limited payout machines, run by an operator licensed by a Provincial Gambling Board, for players over 18.
